A thymol based miticide, Apiguard is used to control the infestation of mites in a beehive. Approved by the EPA, this treatment may NOT be used if honey supers are on the hive. Recommended use in temperature range of 60 degrees and up. Protective equipment is also recommended when applying this treatment. Simply peel back the foil pack to expose the gel and place on top bars of the frames. Apiguard is best used as part of an integrative pest management program. Perform a mite test with a powder sugar roll or alcohol was before and after treatment to determine effectiveness of this product on a given colony.
